BALTIMORE – MedStar Health has continued a three-year accredited status at the Comprehensive Breast Center at MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a quality program administered by the American College of Surgeons (ACS). The achievement puts MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital among an elite cadre of hospital breast programs, having demonstrated compliance with NAPBC quality standards that address a center’s leadership, clinical services, research, community outreach, professional education, and quality improvement for patients.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in women in the United States after skin cancers, according to The American Cancer Society. Programs accredited by the NAPBC follow a model for organizing and managing breast center to facilitate multidisciplinary, integrated, and comprehensive breast cancer services.
“This is a coveted distinction,” said breast surgeon, Maen Farha, MD, medical director of the Comprehensive Breast Center at MedStar Good Samaritan. “It represents the focus all of us at MedStar Health have on quality metrics throughout the patient’s journey with breast cancer or breast disease. This includes prevention, screenings, treatment, and even after the patient completes treatment. The NAPBC accreditation sets high standards, based on scientific evidence, and we pride ourselves in putting our patients’ best interests at the center of our decision making. Our multidisciplinary clinic model is unique and carries the concept of multidisciplinary care to a higher level.”
